A tribute of admiration to these courageous young people, who have endured indescribable suffering during the brutal internal conflict in Sierra Leone (1991 -2002). Despite the unimaginable ordeals they faced as child combatants, they courageously allowed me to create their portraits. I am profoundly grateful to each of them for granting me permission to document this chapter of their lives—another battle they must now face: the long and complex process of being reintegrated into their communities and rebuilding their identities as ordinary children.
