The "Child's Play" exhibition, documented between November 4 and December 6, 2015, captured the intimate and emotional journey of young violinists aged 4 to 18, utilizing the unique crossed perspectives of violin instructor Hong Anh Shapiro and photographer Yoshi Shimizu. This collaboration aimed to reveal the moments of wonder and passion experienced by the children upon close contact with their instrument, documenting them candidly through classes, rehearsals, and concerts without mise-en-scène (staging). The project successfully highlighted the aesthetics of music and the musicality of photography, with images that captured the raw, authentic selves of the young musicians—alternatively focused, dreamy, passionate, or tired—and visually rendered the melody of their commitment as the child, the violinist, and the person became one.「Child's Play」展は、4歳から18歳までの若きヴァイオリニストたちの奥深い成長の軌跡を、ヴァイオリン講師ホン・アン・シャピロと写真家・清水ヨシという、異なる分野で交差する二つの視点から捉えたコラボレーション作品です。本プロジェクトは、子どもたちが楽器と向き合う中で生まれる驚きや情熱の瞬間を可視化することを目指し、スイス・ジュネーブで行われたレッスン、リハーサル、コンサートの様子を、演出を一切加えることなくありのままに捉えました。これら写真には、集中しながらもどこか夢想的で、情熱を秘めた若き音楽家たちの飾らない姿が映し出されています。 そして、子どもであり演奏家である彼らの本質が交わる一瞬を、静謐なイメージとしてとらえました。
